In the Beginning ~ Writing and Artwork

Last week we learnt about organising our ideas in writing. We read the Maori Legend ~ In the beginning ~ and retold the story in our own words.

The children were encouraged to add detail to each part of their writing, and focused on one section per day.

The first day we tried to hook the reader in, and just focused on writing a detailed beginning. The following day was the middle. And the final day we wrote a satisfying ending.

The children then viewed our SOLO rubric for 'Organising our Ideas' and reflected upon their writing to see how much they had achieved and extended themselves.

We also each chose one of the six guardians from the story, and completed a piece of artwork to accompany our published writing.

This is our longest and most detailed piece of writing yet! We can't wait to share it with you, so if you have a moment, pop in before or after school to have a read.

Here we are starting our first drafts of our Guardian Artworks to accompany our writing... to view the completed pieces, pop into class to see the display.
