Author of the Week ~ Xinlai

Each week one of our fabulous writers will be published here on our classroom blog, in celebration of their hard work...

The key began to glow. I carefully slipped it into the keyhole and the door slid open. Peeking inside I was surprised to find a snowy river with frozen trees. It was as quiet as a mouse. Two black and white owls were sitting in the trees. Nothing can live there because it is so frozen.

Xinlai has really thought about how to make his writing interesting for the reader. He has added in lots of detail and used descriptive vocabulary. He has described what you might see, hear and feel which gives us a very clear picture. Keep it up Xinlai!

Author of the Week ~ Jemma

Each week one of our fabulous writers will be published here on our classroom blog, in celebration of their hard work...

The massive lion prowls beneath the grass with her babies.

By Jemma

Jemma has used specific vocabulary that helps us as readers to see a clear picture of what’s happening in her story. ‘Prowls’ and ‘beneath’ are much more interesting words, which makes this a great piece of writing. Keep it up Jemma!

Three Weeks in Room 6

Room 6 has started off really well. The children are settling quickly into routines and slowly starting to pick up the pace so that we will soon be able to complete a full program each day.

We are well underway in our Writing programme, have begun our guided Maths groups, and have been Reading in our guided groups 4x per week.

Currently students are moving between Rooms 6, 7 and 8 for Phonics and Big Book each day, which enables the teachers to better cater to their individual needs and strengths.

Here are some photos of the displays we have managed to create during these first 3 weeks.

Maths: Statistics Based
Individual Bar Graphs, created after we collected data from our classmates for a chosen topic.

Acrostic Name Poems
Using their names, each student wrote one sentence per letter about themselves.

Where in the world we are from
We have been doing lots of activities that help us to get to know one another. Part of what we have shared is discussing where we come from.

Rain Artwork & Writing
Inspired by one of the Big Books we have read, we created artworks to reflect the rain falling on the car (like in the story), and then we wrote descriptive passages to accompany these.
